Apex Predator / Dominant Species

I think I'd like to be a cat
and curl up neatly on the mat
be well fed and get quite fat
have my owner clear up my shat

or maybe I could be a dog
lap up water from the bog
avoid the human's daily slog
and not feel like a tiny cog

perhaps I should become a bird
for flying doesn't seem absurd
way above dropping turd
upon the heads of the frantic herd

but I am human and I'm brave
befriending all the beasts I save
so less a master more a slave
until I crawl into my grave
