first, the smelting:
create some metal with your words,
chuck in some carbon dust and a bit of iron will
and then mix it in a crucible of creation.
forging metaphorical steel.

next, the smithing:
hammer out the shape, the form,
beat and fold in the imagery,
flatten and turn and flatten,
quench to harden the temper.

finally, the finishing:
polish and quicken the edges
to slice the similes.
whetstones as weapons
to hone the point home.

then, you can push it,
right to the hilt,
deep into warm fresh flesh
to skewer your chosen subject:
usually love.
