half body of unrecognizable man escaping through hole in wall

I wanted to crawl into the screaming night
Escape from luminous hours of torturous days
To retreat from domineering matriarchal fright.

I wanted to break conventional foresight.
To evade her lengthening shadow in the doorways -
I wanted to crawl into the screaming night.

I wanted to run from her prying oversight,
Run free in gloomy streets and grimy alleyways
To retreat from domineering matriarchal fright.

I wanted peace from their unhealthy appetite.
To avoid their seedy general malaise
I wanted to crawl into the screaming night.

I wanted to exceed in this poetic rewrite,
Liberate myself from imaginary labyrinthine maze
And retreat from domineering matriarchal fright.

I needed some space to think and some time to write,
Emancipation in a well-crafted metrical phrase.
I wanted to crawl into the screaming night
To retreat from domineering matriarchal fright.
