Douglas Adams
I wish I could write to Villanelle
In verse... Or I could write her a song
About how she murdered the infidel.

I could sit in the dark and retell
That dank tale while smoking a bong
And wishing I could write to Villanelle.

I wish she's still ensconced in a motel
Listening to the beautiful birdsong
About how she murdered the infidel.

She'll slip away down the echoing stairwell
And disappear into the echoing throng.
I wish I could write to Villanelle.

She disguised herself as a demur damoiselle
Lost in flood plain tears as she acted along
With how she murdered the infidel.

But after all that fake blood she didn't feel very well
And disappeared again after trying hard to seem headstrong.
I wish I could write to Villanelle
About how she murdered the infidel.

  1. Jim Stewart says:

Adams should still be alive and writing. I was born in 1950. I’m still alive and still writing. What’s wrong with this picture?

    1. Nothing, Jim. But, if you play Poker with Death, sometimes he’s going to turn up quads.
